Biblia Sacra

Bibles printed in the Netherlands and Belgium

Colophon

In its current form, Biblia Sacra is the result of three different phases of work.

The first phase of the Biblia Sacra project (1477-1553) was the result of a combined research project, initiated by the Faculty of Humanities of the Universiteit van Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and the Faculty of Theology of the University of Louvain (Belgium) in cooperation with the Faculty of Theology of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Contributors in the first phase were: Mark Aalderink, Hinke Bakker, dr. Nelly de Hommel-Steenbakkers, dr. Luc Knapen, Gwendolyn Verbraak. Advisors in this phase were: prof.dr. Chris Coppens, dr. Wim François, prof.dr. Mathijs Lamberigts, prof.dr. Piet Visser

The second phase of the Biblia Sacra project (1554-1800), which was completed in 2014, was carried out by researchers from the Faculty of Theology of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek at The Hague. Contributors in this phase were: Suzanne den Hollander, dr. Nelly de Hommel-Steenbakkers, Mathieu Knops, Henk de Korte (volunteer).

In the third phase, from 2016 until the present day, smaller adaptations were made to various records in Biblia Sacra, often at the suggestion of Biblia Sacra users. In this phase dr. Nelly de Hommel-Steenbakkers was the main contributor.

The editor of Biblia Sacra is prof.dr. August den Hollander, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

Biblia Sacra could only be realised thanks to the friendly cooperation of many libraries and scholars.

Partners

The original database was designed by the Digital Production Centre (DPC) of the University Library of the Universiteit van Amsterdam. The technical realisation, management, and infrastructure of Biblia Sacra was also in hands of the Digital Production Centre. The original website was designed by Trilobiet Internetdiensten. In 2022, the database as well as the website of Biblia Sacra were no longer hosted by the University of Amsterdam but transferred to and renewed by the University Library of Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam.

Funding

The first phase of the project has been partly financed by the two universities (Amsterdam and Louvain), but could only be executed because of the extensive subsidy granted by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO/VNC) and the Fund for scientific research - Flanders (Belgium, FWO/VNC).
